Will Price to the PMA

The Arden Craft Shop Museum is so excited to be lending a group of objects to the Philadelphia Museum of Art for their upcoming exhibition Workshop of the World: Arts and Crafts in Philadelphia.

One of the objects the museum is lending is the 1899 Frank Stephens sculpture of William Lightfoot Price in Costume with Cello.

William Price with Cello, by Frank Stephens, 1899

The sculpture has this to say about his upcoming trip:

Greetings Arden Folk and Visitors,

Usually, I would be sitting on my chair in my case waiting to greet you when you come to the Arden Craft Shop Museum.  For the next several months, however, I will be at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.   The PMA is holding an exhibition – Workshop of the World –to celebrate their 150th birthday, our nation’s 250th anniversary and to recognize the important contributions of the Arts and Crafts communities in our area.

The ACSM is loaning a number of pieces from its collection to the exhibition, including silver by Margaret Wood, work from the Arden Forge and Frank Stephens’ sculpture of me and my cello.  Our friends from other museums, such as Rose Valley and the Biggs Museum will also have items in the show.

The exhibition opens July 12, 2026 and will run until October.

Frank Stephens and I look forward to seeing you in Philadelphia.

And remember – You are Always Welcome Hither at the Arden Craft Shop Museum!

 Warm regards,

 William Lightfoot Price
